What factors determine submersible pump price in India?
HP Rating (Motor Power): This is the single biggest price driver. A 1 HP submersible pump for domestic use is vastly different in cost from a 10 HP industrial pump for deep-borewell irrigation. As HP increases, motor frame, winding copper content, cable size, and panel rating all increase proportionally.
Bore Diameter Class — V3, V4, V5, V6, V8: The diameter class tells you which borewell size the pump fits into. A V3 pump fits a 75 mm (3-inch) bore; a V4 fits a 100 mm (4-inch) bore; a V6 fits 150 mm (6-inch). Larger diameter = larger hydraulic assembly = higher cost. Most domestic and small-farm borewells use V4 or V5. Agricultural and municipal schemes commonly use V6.
Number of Stages: Each stage adds head (pressure). A 2-stage pump at 1.5 HP delivers much less head than a 10-stage pump at 1.5 HP. More stages = higher head capability = higher manufacturing cost.
Material of Construction: Standard borewell pumps use CI (Cast Iron) or engineered polymer impellers and diffusers. Stainless steel (SS304 or SS316) impellers, bowls, and shafts cost significantly more but are required for sandy, brackish, or corrosive water. For export to GCC countries with saline aquifers, SS316 is often mandatory.
Brand and Manufacturing Quality: Price differences between brands often reflect copper winding purity, bearing grade, machining tolerances, and quality of insulation. Cheapest is rarely most economical when dry-run events and hard water are factored in.
Panel, Cable, and Accessories: A complete pump set includes the pump, motor, submersible flat cable, panel (starter/controller), column pipe, and non-return valve. Buying these from the same manufacturer reduces compatibility risk and usually gives better system pricing.
Submersible pump price ranges in India 2025 (indicative)
The following price ranges are indicative for quality-branded pumps sold through authorised channels in India. Prices vary by specification, region, and volume. Always request a quotation specific to your duty point.
Domestic Borewell Submersible Pumps (V3/V4, 0.5 HP to 1.5 HP): ₹6,000 – ₹18,000 for the pump and motor. Suitable for domestic water supply from 60 to 150 ft depth. Single-phase supply. Capacity: 1,000 to 4,000 LPH at rated head.
Agricultural Borewell Pumps (V4/V5, 2 HP to 5 HP): ₹18,000 – ₹55,000. Three-phase supply. Capacity: 4,000 to 12,000 LPH at 100–200 ft head. This is the most common agricultural pump category in India.
Industrial Borewell Pumps (V6, 5 HP to 15 HP): ₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000+. Three-phase supply. V6 bore fits 150 mm casing and handles high-volume agricultural and infrastructure duty. Often used in Jal Jeevan Mission, PHED, and irrigation schemes.
Stainless Steel Submersible Pumps (all HP ranges): SS construction adds approximately 25–40% premium over standard CI/polymer construction. Required for saline groundwater, coastal areas, and export to GCC.
Solar Pumping System (pump + controller + panels, 2 HP to 10 HP): ₹1,20,000 – ₹6,00,000 for a complete system. Price depends on array size (Wp), pump head, and whether the system is PM-KUSUM eligible.
Important: these ranges do not include submersible cable, control panel, column pipes, or installation. Request an all-inclusive quotation specifying your bore depth, required flow, and destination so pricing is realistic and comparable.
How to calculate the correct HP for your borewell pump
The correct HP selection depends on flow and head, not just bore depth. The formula used in practice: Power (HP) = (Q × H) / (270 × η), where Q = flow in litres per minute, H = total dynamic head in metres, η = pump efficiency (typically 0.55 to 0.70 for submersible pumps). Add 15–20% safety margin.
Example calculation: You need 100 LPM flow from a 60-metre total head borewell with an estimated pump efficiency of 0.60. Power = (100 × 60) / (270 × 0.60) = 6000 / 162 = 37 kW... correction: 6000 / 162 ≈ 37 Watts × 1 HP/746W = 0.05 HP — wait, recalculate correctly: (LPM × TDH in metres) / (4550 × efficiency). So (100 × 60) / (4550 × 0.60) = 6000 / 2730 ≈ 2.2 HP. Add 20% safety: 2.2 × 1.2 = 2.64 HP → select 3 HP.
This is why we strongly recommend submitting an RFQ with your actual bore depth, water table level, and required daily volume. SUPERTECH WATER SOLUTION's selection team performs the full duty-point calculation including cable losses, pipe friction, and seasonal water-level variation before recommending HP and stage count.
Using a pump that is undersized leads to overheating and premature failure. Using one that is oversized wastes energy every hour it runs. Correct selection pays for itself many times over.
V4 vs V6 submersible pump: which is right for your project?
V4 pumps (100 mm bore diameter, 4-inch casing): Most common for domestic and small-farm borewells in India. Available in 0.5 HP to 7.5 HP. Flow capacity: 500 to 9,000 LPH. If your bore is 4-inch (100 mm) or 5-inch casing, a V4 pump fits with clearance.
V5 pumps (125 mm bore diameter, 5-inch casing): Mid-range for agricultural duty requiring higher flow. Available in 2 HP to 10 HP. Less common than V4 or V6 in standard market.
V6 pumps (150 mm bore diameter, 6-inch casing): Used for high-flow agricultural, municipal, and industrial borewells. Available in 5 HP to 30 HP. Required for Jal Jeevan Mission, PHED, and irrigation scheme tenders specifying 6-inch bore.
Rule of thumb: If your casing is 4-inch, use V4. If it is 6-inch or larger with high flow requirement, use V6. Always confirm clearance between pump OD and casing ID — minimum 10 mm clearance on each side is standard.
How to get an accurate submersible pump quotation from SUPERTECH
To receive a price quotation that is technically accurate and comparable to other bids, provide the following information in your inquiry: (1) Application — domestic, agricultural, municipal, industrial, or export. (2) Water source — borewell, openwell, or sump. (3) Required flow — in LPM or LPH or m3/hr. (4) Total head — vertical lift plus pipe friction plus discharge pressure.
